All Saints and All Souls celebration

Date Posted: Friday 01 November 2013

The feast day of All Saints celebrates all heroes of the faith, both those named in the Church calendar and the multitude who are not so named. We celebrate and honour all those whose lives have excited others to holiness and charitable living. This festival dates from at least the ninth century.

At 10.30am on 3 November we celebrate a festal High Mass with Procession of the Saints. The music includes Léonce de Saint-Martin’s Mass in E minor and Basil Harwood’s anthem O how glorious is the kingdom

In the evening we mark the commemoration of All Souls when we unite ourselves with departed relatives and acquaintances, and with our predecessors in the faith.

A High Mass of Requiem will be celebrated at 6.30pm, when the choir will sing Tomás de Victoria’s Missa pro defunctis cum sex vocibus. During the service there will be space to lay a flower in commemoration of a departed relative or acquaintance.
