Keeping a Holy Lent

During Lent 2010, we are running six study groups, on a variety of topics:
Paul’s First Letter to Corinth
For anyone who would like to read and discuss in depth a book of the New Testament as a whole.Some of the earliest and well known passages of Paul’s writing reveal some of the concerns and insights of the earliest gentile Christians.
Sundays from 21 February 4.30pm
Faith confirmed
Basic Christian beliefs and practice; based on the ‘New Revised Catechism’, also a variety of other material. Intended as a course of preparation for Confirmation, also open to anyone who would like to revisit their Confirmation or think about the basics of Christian faith.
Tuesdays from 16 February 7.30pm
Thinking theology
For anyone who would like to read and discuss some of the work of modern theologians, such as Bonhëffer, Barth or Rahner. Theology degreee not required, just a willingness to read and think more deeply about our faith.

Archbishop’s Lent Book
For those who would like to read and discuss this year’s Lent Book, ‘Our Sound is Our Wound: Contemplative Listening to a Noisy World’, by Canon Lucy Winkett of St Paul’s Cathedral. ‘The sounds, noises and music with which we are surrounded in modern life have spiritual implications. How do we listen for the voice of God within them? How do we find our own voice?’

Daily prayer
If you would like to consider using the Daily Office of the church for your daily prayer during Lent, come to an introductory meeting, hear about this simple form of prayer, and be given the tools to try it for yourself, and/or join with others for the Daily Office in church.

An Introduction to Holy Week
An exploration of the symbolism and meaning of the Liturgies of Holy Week, with its rich and varied traditions. All the services of Holy Week will be explained and discussed.
