Lay Representative Helen Tyrrell reported on the Diocesan Synod held on 8 March. She summarised Bishop Brian’s address, which posed 4 questions for reflection in the current climate within the Anglican Communion and leading up to the Lambeth Conference this year. These were: what are we? what do we know? what should we do now? and what may we hope for? Discussion took place on the list of topics identified for the Lambeth agenda. From this, listening and respecting difference gained a high priority. Synod approved a motion affirming “our experience that we can hold together ... and that we do not wish to be forced apart”.
The Rector confirmed that Simon Tibbs, currently a final year student at Westcott House, Cambridge, would be ordained deacon on 5 October to serve as stipendiary curate at Old St Paul’s. Simon is known to many in the congregation, since he was a member of the choir while a student in Edinburgh.
