News from the Vestry - January 2009

Date Posted: Wednesday 14 January 2009

The new Vestry met for the first time on 14 January.

The meeting began with various appointments:  Nigel Cook was re-appointed Treasurer for a further 3 years, and Sheila Brock Lay Convenor of the Vestry for a further year.  David McLellan was re-appointed Convenor of the Finance Committee, and Jim Wynn-Evans Convenor of the Property Committee.  Margaret Aspen is standing down as Stewardship Recorder, and a replacement is being sought.

Nigel Cook reported on the annual review of stipends and salaries, and the meeting considered with delight the flourishing Young Adults Social Group, developing under the leadership of Curate Simon Tibbs.

Jim Wynn-Evans reported that proposed refurbishment work at Lauder House was about to commence, and that plans were continuing to develop for the first phase of essential roof repairs, being partially funded by Historic Scotland and the Heritage Lottery Fund.  A small group is considering potential for raising additional funding support for the restoration and renewal project.  Further details will be presented to the congregation in March.

Simon Tibbs gave more information concerning a proposal to exhibit religious work of the surrealist photographer David LaChapelle in Old Saint Paul’s during the 2009 Edinburgh Festival.  The Vestry also noted a sudden increase in attendance at Evensong on Sundays, and agreed to a programme to encourage this to continue.

Further information is available from the .  The next meeting of the Vestry is on 11 February.
