News from the Vestry - May 2008

Date Posted: Wednesday 21 May 2008

The Vestry held its latest meeting on 21 May.

Accounts for the 6 months to March were considered. The fruits of last year’s stewardship programme are now evident. Compared with the same quarter in 2007, giving for the quarter to 31 March 2008 shows an increase of £10,500. This welcome improvement allows the Vestry to continue its programmes for supporting children’s ministry, strengthening the liturgical contribution of the choir, and renewing facilities in Lauder House. It is likely that there will be a significant surplus this year, but this will be needed in future years to support our new stipendiary curate. A summary of the accounts will appear in the June edition of White Rose Newsletter.

Treasurer Nigel Cook reported that contributions from the congregation to the Bishop’s Lent Appeal had amounted to £958, including Gift Aid recovery.

Property Convenor Jim Wynn-Evans gave a further update on work taking place in Lauder House to improve and modernise existing facilities. The Vestry also considered various work required in the curate’s flat at 41 Jeffrey Street to maintain standards.

Helen Tyrrell outlined proposals for taking forward the eco-congregation project, which had gained impetus during a Lent study course dedicated to this subject.

The Vestry is looking forward to celebrating Canon Ian Paton’s silver jubilee of ordination at the end of June, and to welcoming the Right Rev. John Salt, Bishop of St Helena, a small diocese in the South Atlantic, on a pre-Lambeth visit on 13 July.

Further information is available from the .  The next meeting of the Vestry is on 18 June.
