Teddies for Tragedies

Date Posted: Thursday 30 April 2015

Some of the bears knit by the knitting group

As its Lenten project this year, the Old Saint Paul’s knitting group chose to knit teddy bears for Teddies for Tragedies. Teddies for Tragedies is a network which links knitters with organisations throughout the world working with children who have been orphaned through violence or natural disaster or who are born into extreme poverty.

The OSP knitters and crocheters made 30 bears with the promise of more to come, and these will be sent to young children in Malawi via the Raven Trust (http://www.theraventrust.org), a charity in the west of Scotland which provides direct, practical support to communities in Malawi. They also work with expectant mothers, encouraging them to get the prenatal care they need, and these teddies are often included in welcome packages for the newborn babies.
