Towards an Anglican Covenant?
Date Posted: Sunday 02 November 2008
One of the proposed ways of handling differences in the Anglican Communion is the idea of an Anglican Covenant. This would be an agreed statement about faith and practice to which Provinces (such as the Scottish Episcopal Church) would be required to sign up.
What such a Covenant would contain and mean, and whether there should be one at all, is currently being debated. Our Bishop would like everyone to be able to take part in the debate. There are three opportunities for members of Old Saint Paul’s to do so in the near future, and those interested may be able to go to at least one.
The following meetings are being held:
- Our Area Council (of local Episcopal churches) is holding an open meeting for discussion on Saturday 8 November 10am - 12 noon at St Barnabas’ Church, Moredun Park View
- The Diocese of Edinburgh is holding a meeting with addresses by the Bishop and Canon Michael Fuller on Monday 10 November 6-9 pm at St Peter’s Church, Lutton Place (bring-and-share supper 6-7 pm)
- Old Saint Paul’s is having a meeting for anyone for all who would like to come, on Tuesday 11 November 7.30-9pm in the church hall

If any member of Old St Paul’s cannot get to any of the meetings, Fr Ian is happy to try to answer questions. The clergy of Edinburgh Diocese are discussing the Covenant at their annual conference which starts on 3 November.
